Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, DFC (15 April1919 – 16 September 2017) was a senior air officer of the Indian Air Force. He served as the Chief of the Air Staff from 1964 to 1969, leading the Air Force through the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965.He was the first and only officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to be promoted to five-star rank as Marshal of the Indian Air Force in the year 2002, equal to the army rank of Field Marshal. In 1964 He was promoted to the rank of Air Marshal and took over as 6th Chief of the Air Staff at the age of 45 years.
On 22nd September 2004 he set up a trust in the name of “Marshal of the Air Force & Mrs. Arjan Singh Trust” with the office of sub-registrar, Kashmiri Gate in Delhi, vide Reg. No. 18506 Book ‘B’ Vol No. 1571 Page- 62 to 70”.
The Trust office is located in, Air Force Station New Delhi, Race Course, New Delhi-110003. The Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh generously donated Rs. 2 Crores towards the Corpus of the Trust. At the time of demise of Mrs. Teji Arjan Singh a sum of Rs 25 Lacs was donated by the family to the Corpus from her personal account. This was done in keeping with the wishes of Late Mrs. Teji Arjan Singh.
The aim of creating this trust was to help/assist the deserving veterans, their wards and families financially through the interest earned from the corpus. Many other people/organisations have also been donating to this Trust and these donations are exempted from Income Tax under 80(G). Thus the trust has been able to meet its laid down objectives.
